MariEve Lauzon flutist
Flutist MariEve Lauzon is dedicated to performing and commissioning contemporary music. Her extensive repertoire highlights today's newest music, as it draws on the fruits of her continuous collaborations with composers. Curious by nature, her artistic approach focuses on gaining and transmitting a deep understanding of written works to the audience in performance, and discovering new sounds and ways of playing through free improvisation. Adapting with brilliance to the music of major Canadian and international composers, Lauzon's playing is marked by the exceptional quality of her sound, mastery of the instrument, aesthetic rigour and energy.
Lauzon holds a Master's of Performance from the University of Montreal under the direction of Lise Daoust, during which time she also played for conductors Lorraine Vaillancourt and Véronique Lacroix.
Lauzon dedicates much of this experience and passion for contemporary music to the ensemble In Extensio, which she co-founded with colleagues Louise Campbell and Barah Héon-Morissette. In addition to her activities in contemporary music, Lauzon also performs repertoire spanning the eras in settings from the concert hall and beyond with ensembles including Alizé, Les Muses trio, Grandbois Flute and Guitar and for organisations including Codes d'accès, Innovations in concert and Vivarte.
In parallel with her concert career, her involvement with music education reveals her great interest in young musicians and audience development. She is founder and professor of La Maison musique where she teaches flute, recorder and piano, flute specialist at College Jean-Eudes and creates and leads school workshops on contemporary music with Michel Frigon.
Teaching
Passionate about her calling, MariEve seeks above all to foster a great interest and pleasure in making music in her students. For this reason, she founded La Maison musique, a school through which she teaches lessons in flute, recorder and piano.
Each year, she organises numerous chamber music concerts in which her students and guest artists perform. She has taught flute at secondary school students at Collège Jean-Eudes since 2008 (Montreal).
In September of 2009, she began studies in music education at the University of Quebec in Montreal.
Chamber music
As a performer, MariEve particularly enjoys the understanding and intimacy that evolves between musicians when playing chamber music. For this reason, she is involved in many chamber music ensembles. In addtion to In Extensio, MariEve is co-founder of the ensembles Les Muses and Granbois Flute and Guitar.

Ensemble Les Muses
The flute and harp duo Les Muses was founded in 1998 during a chambre music course at the Conservatory of Music of Montreal. Founded by flutist MariEve Lauzon and harpist Véronique Couturier, the duo Les Muses specializes in background music for special events. In addition to self-producing in concert, they were awarded with high acclaim at the ARAM competition and have played at many private and corporate events.
In 2007, Sara Beaudet, lyric soprano, joined Les Muses to offer a chamber ensembles instrumentation unique in Montreal. The trio version of Les Muses was officially founded in 2009 in an inaugural concert at the Maison de la culture Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu. The musicians offered a commented concert featuring the classic repertoire of the most beautiful opera arias. The program included works by Puccini, Offenbach, Bizet, Bellini, Zabel, Hahn, Mozart, Strauss, Mascagni, Delibes, Satie, Debussy, Fauré and many others…
